Denver Health Paramedic Division protocols – Updated May 4, 2015

2014 Annual Report

The Denver Health Paramedic Division is the sole provider of emergency medical services for the City and County of Denver, Colorado. Our mission is to provide professional, compassionate and clinically excellent care to every patient, with every encounter, through a culture of integrity and continuous improvement.

A division of Denver Health and Hospital Authority, we provide 911 services to residents of Denver, as well as the City of Glendale, the City of Sheridan and the Skyline Fire Protection District. The Denver Health Paramedic Division employs 157 paramedics, 16 emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and has a command staff of 30. We responded to 87,151 calls in 2014.

Through the Rita Bass Trauma and EMS Education Institute, Denver Health Paramedics provides training for EMTs and paramedics, as well as continuing education and community training. In 2014, 31 new paramedics and 109 new EMTs graduated from our prestigious program.

Happy EMS Week! The third week in May brings together local communities and medical personnel to publicize safety and honor the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of pre-hospital care. At the Denver Health Paramedic Division, we use this week to celebrate the hard work our team does throughout the year with special activities, culminating with our Annual Awards Ceremony and Family BBQ.

The work EMS professionals do on a daily basis is challenging. We are the ones who respond in a crisis, quite often running towards danger as everyone else is running away. This year, the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) has partnered with the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians to launch the new EMS Strong campaign. The objective of this campaign is to celebrate, unify and inspire the dynamic men and women of our nation’s emergency medical services who do important work, often under difficult circumstances, with strength and integrity.

I am proud to be a part of the EMS community and even prouder of the work our team does here at Denver Health, taking care of the residents of the city and county of Denver. We are EMS Strong.
